Important Citation Requirements for Users of this CD-ROM

Home  |  Table of Contents

Citing the original authors of published papers and reports is required when using data and information from this CD-ROM. Not all of the references need necessarily be cited, unless specifically stated, but in general both the primary reference (usually the earliest) and the most up-to-date reference should be used. References can be found in either the data header or within the data directory in text form. Also, papers describing the development of the time scale, where appropriate, should be included.

An example of a citation of data from this CD-ROM:

Alley, R.B., A.J. Gow, S.J. Johnsen, J. Kipfstuhl, D.A. Meese, and Th. Thorsteinsson. 1995. Comparison of deep ice cores. Nature 373:393-394.

Where appropriate, users should also cite this CD-ROM. Citations in reference lists accompanying published work are stated:

Cross, M. compiler. Updated January 2003. Greenland summit ice cores. Boulder, CO: National Snow and Ice Data Center in association with the World Data Center for Paleoclimatology at NOAA-NGDC, and the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research. CD-ROM.

An example of a statement within a publication acknowledging data might read:

"Data provided by the National Snow and Ice Data Center, University of Colorado at Boulder, and the WDC for Paleoclimatology, National Geophysical Data Center, Boulder, Colorado."
