Tohuvavohu (Toronto) report on behalf of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory Team: At 11:15:20 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 191029A (trigger=932058). Swift did not slew immediately because of an observing constraint. The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 352.140, -40.464 which is RA(J2000) = 23h 28m 34s Dec(J2000) = -40d 27' 49" with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). The BAT light curve showed a multi-peaked structure with a duration of about 40 sec. The peak count rate was ~1080 counts/sec (15-350 keV), at ~2 sec after the trigger. Due to an observing constraint, Swift will not slew until T0+48.5 minutes. There will be no XRT or UVOT data until this time. Burst Advocate for this burst is P. A. Evans (pae9 AT star.le.ac.uk). Leicester) report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team: The XRT began observing the field of GRB 191029A at 12:06:55.2 UT, 3095.1 seconds after the BAT trigger. Using promptly downlinked data we find an uncatalogued X-ray source located at RA, Dec 352.15967, -40.50028 which is equivalent to: RA(J2000) = 23h 28m 38.32s Dec(J2000) = -40d 30' 01.0" with an uncertainty of 4.2 arcseconds (radius, 90% containment). This location is 141 arcseconds from the BAT onboard position, within the BAT error circle. This position may be improved as more data are received; the latest position is available at http://www.swift.ac.uk/sper. We cannot determine whether the source is fading at the present time. A power-law fit to a spectrum formed from promptly downlinked event data gives a column density consistent with the Galactic value of 1.78 x 10^20 cm^-2 (Willingale et al. 2013).

Circular_text TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 26091 SUBJECT: GRB 191029A: iTelescope optical upper limits DATE: 19/10/29 17:39:05 GMT FROM: Filipp Dmitrievich Romanov at Amateur astronomer I observed the field of GRB 191029A (Evans et al., GCN #26088) with remote telescope T30 (0.50-m f/6.8 reflector + CCD) of iTelescope.Net in Siding Spring Observatory, Australia. Two images with a luminance filter were obtained on 2019-10-29 13:16:48 UT (7288 seconds after trigger) with 60 seconds exposure time and on 13:18:46 UT (7406 seconds after trigger) with 120 seconds exposure time (the average time of each exposure). I did not detect any optical transients (magnitude limit of about 19.2 G from Gaia DR2 catalogue).

Wang and Y. Xin (Yunnan Nacional Astronomical Observatory), on behalf of a larger collaboration, report: Following the detection of GRB 191029A by Swift (Evans et al. GCNC 26088), the 0.6m BOOTES-4/MET robotic telescope at Lijiang Astronomical Observatory (China) automatic slewed to the GRB position and gathered g-band images starting at 11:31:27 UT (0.26 h after trigger, once the field became reachable). No optical afterglow is found down to 19.2 mag (at 0.9 h median time after trigger). Once the XRT position was available, we also took several images (clear filter) starting at 13:38 UT. No optical afterglow was found down to 20.3 mag (at 2.5 h median time post trigger) at the enhaced XRT position (Osborne et al. GCNC 26090). This is in agreement with Romanov et al. (GCNC 26091). Evans report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team: We have analysed 9.0 ks of XRT data for GRB 191029A (Evans et al. GCN Circ. 26088), from 4.0 ks to 27.7 ks after the BAT trigger. The data are entirely in Photon Counting (PC) mode. The refined XRT position is RA, Dec = 352.1492, -40.5661 which is equivalent to: RA (J2000): 23 28 35.80 Dec(J2000): -40 33 58.0 with an uncertainty of 3.6 arcsec (radius, 90% confidence). The light curve is consistent with a constant source of mean count rate 8.2e-02 ct/sec. A power-law fit gives an index of 0.08 (+0.12, -0.13). A spectrum formed from the PC mode data can be fitted with an absorbed power-law with a photon spectral index of 1.54 (+0.16, -0.10). The best-fitting absorption column is 1.92 (+3.90, -0.14) x 10^20 cm^-2, consistent with the Galactic value of 1.8 x 10^20 cm^-2 (Willingale et al. 2013). The counts to observed (unabsorbed) 0.3-10 keV flux conversion factor deduced from this spectrum is 3.9 x 10^-11 (4.0 x 10^-11) erg cm^-2 count^-1. A summary of the PC-mode spectrum is thus: Total column: 1.92 (+3.90, -0.14) x 10^20 cm^-2 Galactic foreground: 1.8 x 10^20 cm^-2 Excess significance: <1.6 sigma Photon index: 1.54 (+0.16, -0.10) The results of the XRT-team automatic analysis are available at http://www.swift.ac.uk/xrt_products/00932058. Using 6396 s of XRT Photon Counting mode data and 12 UVOT images for GRB 191029A, we find an astrometrically corrected X-ray position (using the XRT-UVOT alignment and matching UVOT field sources to the USNO-B1 catalogue): RA, Dec = 352.16141, -40.50108 which is equivalent to: RA (J2000): 23h 28m 38.74s Dec (J2000): -40d 30' 03.9" with an uncertainty of 1.5 arcsec (radius, 90% confidence). Leicester) report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team: The XRT refined analysis for GRB 191029A, given in GCN 26094 was incorrect. There is an AGN within the BAT error circle and unfortunately the automated light curve and spectral analysis had been performed for this source, rather than the afterglow. The correct refined analysis is below. We apologise for any inconvenience. We have analysed 13 ks of XRT data for GRB 191029A (Evans et al. GCN Circ. 26088), from 3.1 ks to 62.0 ks after the BAT trigger. The data are entirely in Photon Counting (PC) mode. The enhanced XRT position for this burst was given by Evans et al. (GCN Circ. 26095). The light curve can be modelled with a power-law decay with a decay index of alpha=0.77 (+0.13, -0.12). A spectrum formed from the PC mode data can be fitted with an absorbed power-law with a photon spectral index of 1.81 (+0.23, -0.19). The best-fitting absorption column is 3.4 (+5.3, -1.6) x 10^20 cm^-2, consistent with the Galactic value of 1.8 x 10^20 cm^-2 (Willingale et al. 2013). The counts to observed (unabsorbed) 0.3-10 keV flux conversion factor deduced from this spectrum is 3.5 x 10^-11 (3.7 x 10^-11) erg cm^-2 count^-1. Ukwatta (LANL) (i.e. the Swift-BAT team): Using the data set from T-239 to T+240 sec from the recent telemetry downlink, we report further analysis of BAT GRB 191029A (trigger #932058) (Evans, et al., GCN Circ. 26088). The BAT ground-calculated position is RA, Dec = 352.140, -40.464 deg which is RA(J2000) = 23h 28m 33.6s Dec(J2000) = -40d -27' -49.8" with an uncertainty of 1.8 arcmin, (radius, sys+stat, 90% containment). The partial coding was 46%. The mask-weighted light curve shows a pair of weak pulses spanning the period from approximately T-5 to T+35 seconds. T90 (15-350 keV) is 39.5 +- 7.9 sec (estimated error including systematics). The time-averaged spectrum from T-1.05 to T+45.85 sec is best fit by a simple power-law model. The power law index of the time-averaged spectrum is 1.77 +- 0.21. The fluence in the 15-150 keV band is 1.1 +- 0.1 x 10^-6 erg/cm2. The 1-sec peak photon flux measured from T+1.90 sec in the 15-150 keV band is 1.1 +- 0.3 ph/cm2/sec. All the quoted errors are at the 90% confidence level.
