Rapcal plot links are at the bottom of this page

SETUP

short cable ~10 meter DOR <--> DOM cable
medium cable ~500 meter DOR <--> DOM cable
twisted cable 20 meter DOR <--> DOM twisted pair cable
DOR firmware DC_005h.rbf     568
DOR driver 1.134
DOM rev 3
V power supply 91.5 Volts
V across the filters range is 5.7 to 6.2 Volts
current through DOM ~39mA
Do any other wire
pairs have a load?
NO
Is there any difference if wire pair 1
is used and wire pair 0 is left open?
NO

ADVICE (received Jan 20-21)

GREEN is good     RED is bad    Blue is bizarre (worse than bad?)

1
short cable
NONE
on 0 0
everything works, see rapcal plot
this is the typical pirate domhub configuration of the last three months

2
short cable
NONE
on all
3
medium cable
NONE
on 0 0
communications work until the exact moment of the termination of the "on 0 0" command, see rapcal plot
this means there are approximately 15 seconds of succesful communications, and the "on" command incorrectly claims success as it terminates
once comms wouldn't work at all, changed cables, verified DOM<-->DOR comms, changed cables back, and comms worked again (here, "worked" equals the "15 seconds" DOM!)
John Jacobsen is not surprised that the two commands result in different behavior - "on 0 0" is out of date by the way

Kalle says that he has tested communications with the following cable lengths: 0, 17, 150, 1500, 3500 m, and that perhaps 500 meters is a problem
4
medium cable
NONE
on all
communications never work
compare to setup 3 !!!
DOM sends out reboot message, "on" command incorrectly claims success as it terminates
5
short cable
Jerry's filter
on 0 0
everything works, see rapcal plot
6
short cable
Jerry's filter
on all
7
medium cable
Jerry's filter
on 0 0
communications never work
Jerry says he is not surprised that his filter doesn't work with a 500 meter cable
8
medium cable
Jerry's filter
on all
9
short cable
Andrew's filter
on 0 0
everything works, see rapcal plot
Andrew says his circuit was not designed for a short cable
10
short cable
Andrew's filter
on all
communications never work
compare to setup 9 !!!
11
medium cable
Andrew's filter
on 0 0
everything works, see rapcal plot
compare to setups 3 and 4 !!

12
medium cable
Andrew's filter
on all
13
short cable
Nobuyoshi's filter
on 0 0
everything works
once comms wouldn't work, don't know why

14
short cable
Nobuyoshi's filter
on all
15
medium cable
Nobuyoshi's filter
on all
communications never work
16
medium cable
Nobuyoshi's filter
on all

references in the plots to a "LONG" cable are actually references to the ~500 meter "MEDIUM" cable.
