The PMT HV Base Board Home Page
The PMT HV Base Board in the "passive base" approach is now called "PMT Modular HV Power Supply", which consists of the PMT HV Base Board and the PMT HV Control Board. The latter, to be mounted on the flasher board, contains the HV Generator plus the interface circuitry. See the functional block diagram.

Updates
January 13, 2003 There is a significant increase in the maximum power consumption from the earlier value of 150mW to the current 300mW. This is to reflect the vendors' response to the earlier version of the ERD.
JANUARY 17, 2003 The split ground requirements for the "passive base" configuration will be removed from the later revision of the ERD and the Supplement. The split ground will still be a requirement for the default configuration in which all components are mounted on the PMT base PCB. In the "passive base" configuration, a ferrite bead (J.W. Miller, FB73-422) is required in series with the HV generator ground and the passive base ground to provide a high-frequency noise isolation between the two (There is no such noise source to pin-point. The ferrite bead is just a simple, inexpensive precautious measure).
FEBRUARY 7, 2003 The PSL Drawings 5549B020(Rev E) was found to be incorrect. The drawing shows a mirror image of the correct PMT pinouts. The corrected and revised version of the drawing is posted below (Rev F).
FEBRUARY 18, 2003 The ribbon cable between the PMT Base board and the DOMMB will be of a 1mm-pitch type. The connectors will be a 2mm-pitch type from Samtec. The cable-end connectors will be a female receptacle, whereas the PCB side will be a male header with a plastic shroud and polarization key.
FEBRUARY 24, 2003 The ribbon cable shall be on the top side (the "ice top side") of the PCB, as shown in PSL 5549B020. Section 3.3.3(c) shall be corrected accordingly. The Samtec part number for the ribbon connector header to be mounted on the PMT Base board and the main board is STMM-110-02-S-D, and that for the ribbon connector is TCSD-10-01-N.
The coaxial cable for the anode signal coupling transformer (3.2.3.1.B(b)) shall be an Alpha Wire Company 9178B or equivalent (0.071" jacket diameter). This specification is to ensure that the required number of winding will fit on the toroidal core without overlapping--RG178B/U comes in different jacket diameters, depending on the manufacturer.
MARCH 6, 2003 Supplement B for PMT HV Base Board ERD has been created. The document describes a suggested implementation of the board identification device. The purpose of this document is to enforce the digital interface implementation for the passive base approach to the default configuration so that both of the approaches present an equivalent interface to the DOM Main Board.
March 7, 2003 ERD version 2.3 is online. The interface document has been updated.
July 16, 2003 ERD pre-release version J by George Anderson is posted.
PMT HV Base Engineering Requirements Document
ERD pre-release version J by George Anderson. Use this document for the most up-to-date information (posted 7/16/2003).
The most current version (ver 2.3) in pdf and word (3/7/2003).
The last version (ver 2.2h) in pdf and word (1/13/03). The only significant change in this document from the previous version is the total power consumption.
An older version of ERD (ver 2.2g) (This one still has yellow highlights.)
Drawings referred to in the ERD:
Supplement B (ver 0.0) Suggested implementation of the requirements in Section 3.2.5.3.
Supplement to the ERD (ver 0.00c) in pdf and in word: This document specifies the requirements for the passive base (resistive bleeder chain). An error in Table S2.1 in the previous version has been corrected.

Note The labeling of the focusing electrodes is according to the "Bleeder Distribution" schematic that accompanied the September 2001 PMT samples from Hamamatsu.

Updates
- The total power shall be 300mW
- The ribbon cable is a 1mm-pitch IDC ribbon cable with 28AWG wire.
- The PMT HV Base Board shall have a male header for ribbon cable connection. The connector is a Samtec STMM-110-02-S-D.
- The ribbon cable length shall be approximately 20 cm for the default base configuration.
- The ribbon cable for the passive base approach may be shorter than 20 cm. Length TBD.
- The requirements in Section 3.2 ("Ground") will be different for the passive base approach.
