IceTop DOM Assembly Week (October 13-17, 2003)

Production Check List (To be refined)

Updates (October 24, 2003)

Shipment (October 31, 2003)

The four DOMs were finally shipped out of PSL on October 31.  For the description of the DOMs with complete test data, see http://www.amanda.wisc.edu/krasberg/icetop/engineering_shipment.html.

The first penetrator and the second penetrator are marked as "MAIN" and "JTAG" on the DOM.  Note the markings, since the installation of the penetrator is not uniform among the four DOMs.

The cables were cut from a spool of 0.9mm Ericsson quad into the following segments and wound on a smaller spool (approx. 16" diameter) in the following order:

List of Items Shipped on October 31

1 Hardigg Box containing

1 Cardboard Box containing 0.9mm Ericsson quad cable cut into the following lengths

The cable segments have been wound on a small spool (approx. 16" diameter) in the order listed above.

Note     The following items will be shipped on around December 1:

Main Board Firmware Changes

See http://www.amanda.wisc.edu/kaeld/icecube/domtest.  This page has a link to the exact firmware files that were loaded into the DOMs.

The "Second Penetrator"

The second penetrator is used for programming the DOM firmware at the Pole.  A cable driver for the ByteBlaster (JTAG) cable is added in an empty area of the HV Control Board to cope with the extended length of the programming cable.  (The HV Control Board for this purpose is designated as "REV C".)

This diagram shows the second penetrator wire connections.  The second penetrator makes connections to the pads on the HV Control Board.  The drain wire of the second penetrator is left unconnected.

The Box

There will be a breakout box for each IceTop tank.  Tentatively, NK has selected the following:  Newark cat# 90F9596 (Hammond Manufacturing 1414PHI), steel with a hinged door, 10" x 8" x 4" (panel size 8.75" x 6.88").  See photo.  See catalog page.

The following diagrams will be placed in the breakout box mounted on the outside of the IceTop tank:

The Barrier Blocks (Digikey part number CBB112-ND).  Two of these will be placed in each of the breakout box.
